The international and local Chinese students living in the Asian Youth Center (Student Dormitory Building No. 6), Tsinghua University put on a welcome mixer on Sunday evening, September 13, 2015 for the new students who recently moved into the building to meet and begin their cultural exchange.
The Student Dormitory Building No. 6 is a recent edition to Tsinghua’s campus and houses students in the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program, along with Master's and undergraduate students from other programs. All of the Chinese students selected to live in the building are second year Master’s students.
One international and one Chinese student share a set of AB rooms. The goal of this kind of mixed accommodation is to foster better communication and understanding between cultures.
The students gathered in the basement to play games, dance and meet their neighbors.
“We decided to put on the party to let people meet everyone in the building,” said Vincent Henric, one of the party’s organizers. “It is not easy to know everyone when you have just arrived, so this was a good way to make new friends.”
By all accounts, it was a resounding success.
“Because of the party I know more people than before. It’s a great opportunity to know each other and improve our friendship,” said Chinese student Lu Enze.” I believe it’s a great start for the year.”
