Tsinghua University Center for Student Learning and Development (CSLD), founded in November 2009, provides professional advisory and support service on student learning and development, promotes students’ learning quality, and finally helps them to achieve success in their studies.
Programs and services offered by CSLD include academic advising, drop-in tutoring for STEM courses, Chinese writing tutoring, workshops, lectures and Buddy Plan. CSLD also offers learning resources both online and offline.

1. Academic advising
Academic advising is a one-on-one free advisory service on learning and personal development. Advisors at CSLD include both experienced academics from various disciplines and senior student volunteers, who assist and support students in solving academic problems. Students can make an appointment through Wechat Official Account for the individualized advising.

Here are the steps to reserve academic advising.

2. Drop-in tutoring for STEM courses
Drop-in tutoring for STEM courses is committed to helping students solve problems in their study of foundation courses (including calculus, linear algebra, college physics, probability and statistics, program design, mechanical drawing, chemistry and biology) through both daily tutoring and small-class tutoring. Tutors are Tsinghua student volunteers with a letter grade of A- or higher in the courses that they help students with.

① Online daily tutoring
Students can ask questions anytime online in international student drop-in tutoring Wechat group through scanning the following code. Before asking questions, students are required to verify that they are Tsinghua international students.

② In-person tutoring
All international students are welcome to daily tutoring sessions. Since no reservation is required, students shall bring their STEM questions to peer tutors. Locations, hours, and the availability of English speaking tutors are subject to change. Please follow Wechat account or contact CSLD directly for further information (contact information is shown below).

③ Small-class tutoring
Small-class tutoring is designed for junior and sophomore students. During the small-class tutoring session, volunteer tutors help students review the course content and explain to the students the approaches to solve typical problem sets in science courses (Calculus A/B, Linear Algebra, Engineering Graphics, College Physics B, College Chemistry, etc.). Group reservation is required via Wechat Official Account.

Students are also welcomed to consult to their department/program coordinator if there will be any small-class tutoring session tailor-made for them.

3. Chinese writing tutoring
Chinese writing tutoring helps students who are struggling with Chinese homework, presentations, and writing and lack in confidence in communicating daily in Chinese. Writing tutors, with outstanding language skills, immense international experience, and extensive publishing experience, are ready to provide professional one-on-one advice on the structure, style, wording and phrasing of articles/coursework/diaries/… for every Tsinghua student. More than 1200 times of requests were answered last year with a 98% positive feedback.

There are three ways to make a reservation for Chinese writing tutoring.
① Students can scan the following code and fill out the questionnaire to make an online reservation.

② Students can also follow CSLD’s WeChat account (code shown at the bottom of this page) and PM “#写作助理预约”.
③ Students are also welcomed to send an email to writinglearningthu@outlook.com.

4. Buddy plan
Buddy plan aims to offer an effective platform for cooperative learning. It attracts and calls on Tsinghua students to get up and sleep early, read books, memorize words in another language, and do self-study together through online punch-clock and offline communication.

5. Workshops and lectures
Every semester lectures on various topics such as overseas study preparation, IT skills, quantitative software skills, communication skills, and useful study skills will be held on a regular basis. Students can follow CSLD WeChat account for more information.
