About Passport

According to government regulations, long-term foreign experts must enter China on a regular passport in order to work. The passport must also have at least six months’ validity.

“R” Visa

The “R” visa is for high-level talent entering China. To apply for an “R” visa, foreign experts need a Confirmation Letter for Foreign High-Level Talent from Tsinghua University.

The application should process through the Long-Term Foreign Experts Management System by the respective department or school.

Foreign experts are required to submit the following documents:

1. A digital copy of the passport information page, valid for at least six months.

2. A digital copy of a 2-inch front-facing, white background photograph taken within the last six months.

3. An employment contract.

4. Application form for the Confirmation Letter for Foreign High-Level Talent (This should be processed by the respective department through the university’s long-term foreign expert management system).

“Z” Visa

The “Z” visa is for administrative roles and others foreign staffs entering China. To apply for an “Z” visa, foreign staffs need a Notice of Foreigners' Entry Permit from Tsinghua University.

The application should process through the Long-Term Foreign Experts Management System by the respective department or school.

Foreign staffs are required to submit the following documents:

1. A digital copy of the passport information page, valid for at least six months.

2. A digital copy of a 2-inch front-facing, white background photograph taken within the last six months.

3. An employment contract.

4. Application form for the Notice of Foreigners’ Entry Permit for China (This should be processed by the respective department through the Long-Term Foreign Experts Management System).

5. A digital copy of the highest education degree (academic) certificate, relevant approval documents or professional qualification certificates.

6. A digital copy of a certificate of no criminal record.

7. Electronic copy of the medical examination certificate.

8. A proof of work experience issued by the previous employer.

“F” Visa

The “F” visa is intended for academic visits or exchanges, is valid for up to 180 days, and allows for single, double, or multiple entries. The invitation letter is provided by the respective department or issued by the university upon the department’s request.

Under normal circumstances, the required documents include the passport, and basic personal and work information.
