ISSC Holds Autumn Orientation for Incoming Scholars

On August the 29th, the International Students & Scholars Center (ISSC) hosted the autumn semester orientation for new international scholars. Representatives from the Human Resources Office, the Housing Service and Management Center, the Security Department and Tsinghua University Hospital welcomed the new scholars and provided them with useful information for living and working at Tsinghua.

Ms. ZHANG Yimeng, Executive Director of the ISSC began the orientation with a brief introduction of Tsinghua University and ISSC. Associate Director from ISSC, Ms. ZHANG Li, introduced the administration procedures related to international scholars, as well as the rich cultural and club activities on offer for scholars at Tsinghua.

Mr. ZUO Wen from the Housing Service and Management Center introduced accommodation services to international scholars. The topic of social insurance was also outlined, such as the monthly taxes included in the salary payment, by Ms. LI Xiaochun, from the Human Resources Department. Campus safety was covered by Mr. HUANG Xueyong, Director of Safety & Order Affairs Office, Security Department, who provided useful tips on how to look after one’s belongings and safety. Dr. LIU, Director of Physicians at Tsinghua University Hospital, also attended the session, giving specific information on how to see a doctor at the campus hospital, and what services the hospital offers. Lastly, Ms. Madeline King from ISSC shared her experience of campus life.

11 participants from 7 departments and 6 countries attended the orientation session.

The international scholar’s orientation aims to help incoming international scholars find their feet at Tsinghua and facilitate their integration into the university community and campus life. It is held every semester to provide scholars valuable information that affects them during their stay in Tsinghua and China, including work and residence permit, insurance, housing and campus safety, as well as tips on how to get involved in campus life and the many activities organized for scholars.
