For students who have not visited Beijing before, taking a taxi from Beijing Capital Airport to Tsinghua is the most convenient option. There are official taxi ranks available at the airport. Official taxis have standard markings and registration numbers. Be sure to only take official taxis leaving from the designated taxi stations and do not take unlicensed taxis or private cars. The taxi fee from Beijing Capital Airport to Tsinghua University should be around 150 RMB (including a 10 RMB highway toll fee). Once in the taxi, tell the driver that you would like to go to the north-east gate of Tsinghua University, which in Chinese is: 我要到清华大学东北门的紫荆公寓. Remember to ask for a receipt from the taxi driver upon your arrival.
In addition, the Beijing airport offers an Express Train service, which is an affordable and reliable option for getting into the city. The Express train has four stops: Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at the airport, and Dongzhimen and Sanyuanqiao in downtown Beijing. The running time for the trains departing from Terminal 2 is 6:35am to 11:10pm daily. The running time for the train departing from Terminal 3 is 6:20am to 10:50pm daily. A one-way ticket costs 25 RMB. Both Sanyuanqiao and Dongzhimen subway stations are directly assessable from the airport transfer stop. To get to Tsinghua using the express train, the quickest way is to get off at Sanyuanqiao station, take subway line 10 nine stops to Zhichunlu (知春路) station and transfer to line 13. Take line 13 one stop to Wudaokou (五道口) station. Once at Wudaokou, go out exit A and take bus 549 two stops to ‘Dashiqiao’ (大石桥) which brings you to the north-east gate of Tsinghua University.
The airport also has bus services heading downtown. The closest route to Tsinghua University is the Zhongguancun route, which stops at the Tsinghua Science Park (清华科技园). The one-way bus ticket costs roughly 30 RMB and starts service at 6:50am and concludes at 1:00am After getting off at Tsinghua Science Park, take a taxi to Tsinghua University north-east gate (approximately 15 RMB).
